At the age of 6, Ray Pena won a grand champion award at the local county fair for his drawing of Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man. At that moment, he knew what he wanted to do – make video games… or draw some more. Upon high school graduation, he let go of his dream of being a professional football player by choosing art school over the University of Texas. Being 5’7” and 115 lbs was a big factor too.
Ray did, in fact, start his career in games in 1998 and stayed in it for 10 years. He had the opportunity to work on many exciting titles (at the time) such as The Red Star, Turok: Evolution and Area 51: Blacksite. Ray got a taste of the amazing world of television and feature film animation. He was able to work as an animator on Jimmy Neutron, Ant Bully and Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. In order to stay in Austin, he opted to start Moontower VFX with Greg. Many grand champion awards later, his free time is now spent running lots of miles and building Halloween costumes for his kids!
